Mount Rinjani

Or Gunung Rinjani is an active volcano in Republic of Indonesia on the island of Lombok. Administratively the mountain is within the Regency of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (Indonesian: Nusa Tenggara Barat, NTB). It rises to three,726 meters (12.224 ft), creating it the second highest volcano in Republic of Indonesia.

       I can only strongly recommend Ali Trekking. I have been trekking all around the world and this is one of the best I did (3D2N: Sembalun-base camp-summit-lake-Senaru). Of course, the site is amazing, not only the summit with the views but also the caldeira, the lake, the active volcano inside the caldeira, the walk back to Senaru in beautiful forest with staged vegetation as we go down from 2600 to 800m. All was perfectly organised, from the pick up at the harbour to the drop off at our next destination on the island. The quality of the service provided was great and the team (guide and porters) was very kind and helpful. The guide Adi was very friendly and we could adapt the timing of the program so that my son could cope more easily. When we were at the lake, my son wanted to fish and we had a great time catching so many fishes together with the team. We cooked them in our camp fire, it was a nice extra to our meal.
The only minus was that the fishes had too many bones…from my son’s point of view.

      We had a great time with Ali Trekking, everything was well arranged. Ali picked us up from the airport and had arranged the guest house for the night before we went on the hike.

Our guide, Adi, and porters, Wendi and Nur, did a great job. They were very friendly and had wonderful cooking skills.

Adi was able to get a nice spot on the camping ground for our tent, so that we could see the sunrise with the best view possible.

      Ali Trekking had been a great help in our Rinjani trip. From booking to addressing our queries, Ali had always been very prompt in his responses, and even went beyond to provide suggestions for accommodations when we were considering staying an extra night in Lombok.

We were led by our guide, Ady,  who was very friendly and kind. He would often match our pace and wait for us, or ask if we need breaks at parts where the terrain was more challenging. He even offered to help me carry my bag when I was struggling with my load, despite already carrying at least 15kg (his own bag).

The porters were also our unsung heroes - they carried 20-30kg of the tent, sleeping bags, our food and water supplies up the steep slopes. They cooked for us, helped us set up tent, cleaned up for us and immediately attended to our requests for tea, water, snacks etc.

      I had an incredible 2D1N climb up Mount Rinjani with Ali Trekking. Our guide, Awing, surpassed all expectations with his kindness, expertise, and unmatched fitness. Despite his limited English, he guided us through easier paths, matched our pace, and even carried my partner's bag. Awing's knowledge of the mountains and his ability to make us feel comfortable and supported throughout the journey truly made a positive impact on our experience. His selflessness was evident when he volunteered to carry the bag of a hiker who got ill during our descent. In addition, when we reached the second-to-last post, we decided to take the motorbikes back to the entrance due to our time constraints. He insisted to run back, and he reached the entrance gates in a fraction of the estimated time! If I have the opportunity to return, I would definitely seek out Awing again for his exceptional guidance and memorable adventures.

Sahdi and Erman, our porters, played a vital role in making our trek enjoyable and hassle-free. Despite the language barrier, their kindness shone through as they not only carried the necessary equipment but also assisted in cooking delicious meals that energized us along the way. From Nasi Campur to Banana Pancakes, their culinary skills impressed us. What truly touched our hearts was when Sahdi and Erman climbed back up the mountain during our descent to ensure we didn't go hungry due to our slower pace. This thoughtful gesture demonstrated their care and dedication to our well-being.

Yuz, our driver, was attentive and made the long rides to and from the starting point of our trek smooth and relaxing. Despite the distance and potential challenges, Yuz made sure we were comfortable throughout the journey. From engaging in conversations to playing music, he created a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. His professionalism and commitment to safety were evident when he invited a friend to accompany him on the return journey, demonstrating his responsibility as a driver.

In conclusion, Ali Trekking provided an exceptional experience that exceeded my expectations. The team, consisting of Awing as our knowledgeable guide, Sahdi and Erman as caring porters, and Yuz as our reliable driver, went above and beyond to ensure our trek up Mount Rinjani was not only physically rewarding but also emotionally fulfilling. I highly recommend Ali Trekking to anyone seeking a professional, knowledgeable, and caring team for their Lombok adventures.

      We spent such a long time looking through our options for hiking Rinjani and we are so pleased we found Ali Trekking! Our guide, Bayu, and the two porters, alongside Ali’s hospitality, were a huge factor in what made our trip so memorable.

The communication throughout the planning period was brilliant and when we arrived on the island we were collected from the port and driven straight to Ali’s where we were met with a warm welcome and introduced to the team we’d be spending the next few days trekking with.

Bayu was our amazing guide who answered any questions we had, walked at a pace we set, and helped us navigate the crowds and difficult routes with ease. It was like hiking with a friend which made the journey so much easier and comfortable.

Thanks to him and our porters we secured a beautiful camping spot, probably the best on the site, and had an amazing view to watch the sunset and see all the starts.

Throughout the two days we walked our porters were always ahead and made sure we had the most delicious food every time we stopped, with hot drinks and a seat for every meal. They work incredibly hard and we are very thankful for their efforts.

Everything rolled in to one made our hike one of the best, if not THE best, experience we have had here in Indonesia to date. Thank you to Ali, Bayu and the guys for such a memorable trip. We’d definitely love to have the same team if our legs could manage the hike again. Maybe next year we will brave the 3 day 2 night trip.

      We hebben onwijs genoten van onze 2D1N summit trek. Alles was perfect geregeld door Ali en zijn team. We arriveerden een dag voordat de trekking begon en kregen een warm welkom in de homestay van Ali en zijn familie. De homestay is prachtig gelegen, met een mooi uitzicht over de rijstvelden.

De uitleg over de tocht was helder en als het benodigde materiaal lag al voor ons klaar. Tijdens de tocht kwamen we dan ook niets te kort, het eten was lekker, de tent comfortabel en de begeleiding perfect. En dit alles tegen een zeer goede prijs!

We hebben het onwijs naar ons zin gehad. We wensen Ali, zijn familie en zijn team het allerbeste. Ali, bedankt!

      Ali, and his team, took my family up Rinjani. We had a couple of problems in that my youngest struggled and i came down with here, while the rest of the family completed the climb. Ali and his team, were delightful and professional, and looked after us both on and off the mountain.  The only very small critism is that, you get fed so much food! the portions could be a little smaller! Thank Mr Ali, and i wish you everything success in the future.       The best mount Rinjani Trekking Company, Environmentally, Responsible.

Ali Trekking is a tour company that I really like and I am really satisfied with their service, we are very satisfied. Everything was great, the team was well prepared.

This is an extraordinary experience, for climbers who want to go to Lombok to climb the Mount Rinjani.
